Running a sustainable core tourism business is the core focus of the hotel which has put in place a variety of conservation efforts and capacity building initiatives.

Community Involvement: The hotel supports the economy through local procurement and employment so by choosing to stay with us guests are helping to contribute towards community development.

People & Projects: Programmes include HIV / Aids awareness and education programme, Safe & Fair working conditions for all staff members, First Aid training, Hospitality mentoring, training on recycling and motivation to participate in conservation efforts and unwanted items donated by guests are distributed to the local Department of Child Welfare.

Green Facts: A Worm Farm has been installed for organic kitchen waste, wherever possible the hotel buys local goods and a recycling programme is in place. An alien eradication programme provides all the firewood required and only sustainable fish is served and local organic farmers supported. Solar geysers are being installed.

Conservation: The Dunes is wholly committed to the preservation of the natural environment with a programme to eradicate alien treas to make way for the re-establishment of the indigenous St Francis thicket. This is reviving the surrounding wetland network and has seen an increase in the number of frog species and other wildlife that are on the endangered list.
