Botswana
Many regard Botswana as the best safari destination in Africa and it is not hard to see why. Natural resources are fiercely protected and wildlife almost has the rule of law which results in one of Africa’s most spectacular natural events when the Delta fills with water from the Angolan highlands which floods the plains, canals and waterways attracting animals from far and wide.
The Okavango is the largest inland delta system in the world, half the size of Switzerland. This is a place where you can go deep into the heart of wilderness and experience game viewing by boat, mokoro (dug-out canoe) or vehicle. Travel down the Chobe River on a river boat or explore vast plains of the Savute where lions and hyenas clash for survival in one of Africa’s elephant hotspots. Areas along the Kwando River and Linyanti are also exellent for spotting wild dog and in particular along the Kwando River where game viewing it is known to be the best in Botswana!
The Delta and Chobe Game Reserve is not all that is on offer here. The North Eastern region of the Kalahari Basin contains the Makgadikgadi Pans – an extensive network of salt pans and ephemeral lakes. This area also offer excellent game viewing and is an ideal place to be if you love stargazing. In other parts of Botswana horseback safaris are also a fantastic option particularly in the Tuli Block!
