Queensland, known as the Sunshine State, is Australia’s largest state on the East Coast and extends from Brisbane, the capital in the South to the Tropical North, to Cairns and Port Douglas. There is so much to see and it is warm all year round. Queensland is home to one of the Great Wonders of the World, the Great Barrier Reef, and the huge Daintree Rainforest, both full of colour, wildlife, are very untouched and are naturally beautiful.
Ideally, base yourself in the North in Port Douglas, just 45 mins north of Cairns and explore the reef and rainforest, vast countryside, and long sandy beaches, which you can often have to yourselves! You can also hop over to the Whitsundays, perhaps to Hamilton Island, to sail and enjoy Whitehaven beach, 6km of white sandy beach, rivalled as one of the best beaches in the world.
In the south, enjoy Noosa, its surf beaches and cafe culture. There is such a range of sights to see and activities to enjoy here including swimming and surfing at the local beaches along side water sports, including parasailing, jet ski-ing, water ski-ing and windsurfing on the nearby Noosa River. Visitors can also take a kayak or canoe through the everglades of the Great Sandy National Park where you can travel through waterways teeming with wildlife that have flowed for thousands of years. The renowned Australia Zoo is home is full of furry creatures from wombats to Tasmanian Devils. Other fun activities include travelling across the Noosa River via cable ferry and journeying deep into the Cooloola National Park to the Teewah and Rainbow Beach coloured sands or travelling along the spectacular Seventy Five Mile Beach to Fraser Island and explore the natural beauty of this magnificent wilderness with a guided rainforest walk. Take a refreshing swim in a freshwater lake before returning to Noosa through the towering forests of Satinay and Brushbox and down the remote beach streaches of the ‘sandy highway’.
We also recommend dolphin watching at nearby Harvey Bay. Queensland is Australia’s fastest-growing state, and it is no surprise as it offers so much!
